“Broasting®” is a unique cooking method developed in 1954 when Broaster’s inventor and founder L.A.M. Phalen combined the principles of a pressure cooker and a deep fryer into one commercial cooking appliance. The results – in quality, flavor and cooking speed – were revolutionary. A process so special & unique he called it “Broasting”.
With his invention, Phelan trademarked the words “broaster” and “broasted food”. Phelan manufactured the first Broaster Pressure Fryers under Flavor Fast Foods, Inc. and in 1956 formed the Broaster Company.
Success of Broasted Chicken was grounded in the Wisconsin Supper Clubs as a signature menu item.
Broaster Company expanded the line of Broaster Foods coatings and marinades to include ingredients used to pressure fry fish, vegetables, beef and pork products.
In the 1990s, a full line up of frozen foods were released under the Broaster Recipe label as a way for Operators to expand their menus and serve high quality items in a convenient way.
Since then, Broaster Company has released two additional branded trademark food programs – Broaster Express and Rock County Smokehouse. Two drop-in concepts that fit into the convenience store or a grocery store/deli.
Broaster brands and products can be found in almost all foodservice segments; restaurants, convenience stores, grocery stores, food trucks, hospitals, veterans service centers, colleges & universities, food courts and major restaurant chains.
Genuine Broaster Chicken has expanded to include Tenders and Spicy bone-in chicken.
In 2019, Broaster Company celebrated 65 years of foodservice industry success.
